Venezuela’s Ramirez to headline IBA Champions’ Night La Guaira on home soil for WBA International title

August 15th, 2024 / IBA Champions Night

Undefeated professional Albert Ramirez is ready for a headlining homecoming, as he returns to Venezuela to main event IBA Champions’ Night La Guaira against Germany’s Adam Deines for the WBA International Light Heavyweight title at the Domo Jose Maria Vargas arena.

Since his professional debut in 2018, Ramirez has been undefeated in 16 matches and recently won the WBO Global Cruiserweight title, beating Ricardo Luna of Mexico. His 10-round opponent Deines (23-2-1) is on a four-match unbeaten run, last suffering defeat in a challenge for the IBF World and WBC World Light Heavyweight titles against Artur Beterbiev.

Ramirez will be joined on the card by two of his countrymen, Yoel Finol and Luis Arcon. Finol, the Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallist, is undefeated as a professional with three victories to his name and now sets his sights on Alexis Alvarado (6-1) at the 54kg weight category, an Eliminator match for the IBA World Champion title.

Also in a 54kg Eliminator match will be Spain’s Samuel Carmona (12-1) and Romanian Cosmin Girleanu (4-0). Carmona lost to Uzbekistan’s Hasanboy Dusmatov at IBA Champions’ Night Tashkent but has had great experience at this level so far. Girleanu was a 2015 World Junior Champion. Both Eliminator matches are to last eight rounds.

Luis Arcon fights at 63.5kg over six rounds in an IBA Pro World Champion title Eliminator match against Karen Tonakanyan from Armenia. Tonakanyan is a professional with five victorious fights to his name but has already had one loss at IBA Champions’ Night to Sofiane Oumiha from France. Arcon now has a professional record of 15-0-1 with a single loss at IBA Champions’ Night to Bakhodur Usmonov of Tajikistan, and he will be hoping to celebrate a victory in Venezuela.

In another contest with WBA Fedalatin title at stake, Russia’s Khuseyn Baysangurov (23-1) meets Nicolas Ezequiel Jara (11-5) from Argentina over 10 rounds in the welterweight division. Baysangurov will be looking to add to his 20 knockout victories and continue his move up the ladder from the days of holding the WBA Continental (Europe) and IBF International Light-Middleweight titles.

Abel Mina (17-3-1) from Ecuador meets Shadir Musa Bwogi from Uganda in an eight-round Eliminator match for the IBA World Champion title at 75kg. So far, Bwogi has seven professional victories from seven. He made his IBA Champions Night debut with a defeat to Cheerav Ashaslaev in Sochi. Mina defeated Magomed Madiev unanimously on his IBA Champions’ Night debut in Almaty in April.

In the other bout at that weight, home favorite Keiber Gonzalez (21-1) faces Elias Espadas from Mexico (22-6), who comes in with a high knockout rate.

Finally, Ender “El Tigre” Luces from Venezuela (21-1) faces Tigran Uzlyan from Russia (10-1) in an IBA Eliminator match at the 60kg weight category. Luces’ only professional career defeat so far came against IBA Champions’ Night stalwart Albert Batyrgaziev and will look to better his compatriot this time.
