Urbanski keeps eye on title at IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva

Fabian Pawel Urbanski has progressed to the men’s 75kg quarterfinals after defeating Andrei Matskevich from Belarus on day five of the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships at the Budva Sports Centre in Montenegro.

Urbanski, who is the IBA Junior World champion, was declared the unanimous winner on Sunday, which saw a fellow World champion loss. Armenian Albert Harutyunyan has been eliminated from the men’s 75kg tournament after a split decision loss to China’s Rehemujiang Refukaiti.

Another IBA Junior World Champion, Amantur Dzhumaev from Kyrgyzstan, won in the first round of his men’s 54kg contest with Colombia’s Isaac Rincon Carmona by referee’s stoppage. European silver medallist Emine Kilinc from Türkiye was eliminated after suffering a first-round knockdown too, to Yelyanur Turganova from Kazakhstan in the women’s 50kg. European bronze medallist Maria Georgopoulou from Greece defeated Sanja Mitic from Serbia to continue in the division too.

Asian champion Jasmin Tokhriova from Uzbekistan progressed in the women’s 48kg competition, beating Daria Zrianina from Russia unanimously. Also moving into the quarterfinals was Anel Abdrassilova from Kazakhstan on a tight split decision against Tiffany Spencer.

European champion Bilalhabsi Nazarov from Azerbaijan continued in the men’s 48kg competition, comfortably beating Crisler Bonilla of Ecuador. Sayfiddin Sabirov from Uzbekistan defeated Manuel Valdez Lopez from Mexico too. Another European champion, Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan, defeated Samir Hamdam from Afghanistan by unanimous decision too.
