Two American champions to be celebrated at IBA Champions’ Night in Aguascalientes

For the very first time, IBA Champions’ Night comes to the American continent with its event in Aguascalientes, Mexico taking place on 6 April 2024. Two IBA American Champion titles will be at stake for both the main and co-main events at Plaza de Toros San Marcos.
Undefeated Mexican boxer Bryan “El Latino” Acosta (20-0) and South American Games silver medalist Alberto “El Impacto” Melian from Argentina will dispute the IBA American champion belt in the 57kg weight category. Melian is currently a pro boxer with 12 victories, 2 losses, and 1 draw on his record.
In a co-main event, the Pan-American champion from Mexico Marco Verde is to face Cuban Roniel Iglesias, who is the IBA World champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist. The winner of this contest will be declared the IBA American Champion at 71kg.
Mexican boxer Jose Miguel Borrego (20-4) has already taken part in IBA Champions’ Night and scored one victory and one loss in 67kg. His next rival is Dante Ettore from the USA (8-1-2). In another fight at 67kg, Miguel Ramirez Martinez from Mexico will compete in a 6-round ranking contest against Shamar Canal (7-0), an outstanding prospect from the USA.
IBA World Championships bronze medalist and Pan American Games medallist Rogelio Romero from Mexico is to face Evgeny Shvedenko from Russia in the 86kg division, who has both amateur and professional experience with a 16-1-1 record.
The opening contest of the night will feature the 92kg bout between home favorite Kevin Martinez (13-0), a professional boxer from Mexico, and Ecuador’s Julio Castillo, who is the IBA World Championships silver medallist.
The heat from the intense fights will be felt from far of Aguascalientes, and the Mexicans, well-known fans of professional boxing, will definitely create a special atmosphere at Plaza de Toros San Marcos.
