While the action inside the ring of the Rio 2016 Olympic Boxing Tournament has already produced some memorable bouts, outside of it in the stands of Riocentro Pavilion 6, fans from all over the world have also been putting on a show. The flags have been flying high in support of countries from every continent, while the boxers themselves have also been getting behind their teammates, urging them on to succeed.

“The atmosphere is great inside the venue. Its always nice to see Olympic crowds getting behind all the boxers and particularly the Cuban team. I’m thrilled to be here boxing for my country and hope to continue winning for Cuba in this great setting,” said Cuban Heavyweight (91kg) Erislandy Savon after he got his Ro 2016 campaign off to a winning start against Britain’s Anthony Fowler.

‘Mexican waves’ have been flowing around the boxing arena, leading Brazil’s biggest newspaper, O Globo, to comment after the Saturday’s bout between Brazilian Juan Nogueira and Australia’s Jason Whateley that the fans had created a ‘Maracanã-like atmosphere’ inside Pavilion 6, in reference to the famous football stadium that played host to the Rio 2016 Opening Ceremony on 5 August.

On Tuesday morning, Brazil’s Robson Conceição will take to the ring for the first time against Tajikstan’s Anvar Yunusov, and will undoubtedly get the thousands of Brazilian fans creating another typically carnival atmosphere once again.
