The message is clear – Asian Boxing Confederation remains united with the IBA

November 23rd, 2024 / IBA, ASBC

The International Boxing Association (IBA) is proud to acknowledge the decisive and resounding stance taken by the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) members during its Congress in Bangkok today. The delegates voted overwhelmingly in favour of remaining part of the IBA Family, reaffirming their confidence in the organization’s leadership and shared vision for the future of the sport. Out of 34 votes cast, 23 delegates opposed ASBC’s independence from IBA, 10 voted in favour, and 1 abstained. This clear outcome reflects a united front within the Asian boxing community. Strong speeches were delivered by the ASBC Board of Directors, along with those key members of our ASBC National Federation community.

‘This is a significant moment for our organization as a whole,’ IBA Secretary General and CEO Chris Roberts OBE claimed. ‘The ASBC Congress has spoken loud and clear: Asian nations are committed to staying with the IBA. I’m thrilled to see that the Congress delegates respected the Constitution and stood firm. Our partnership with the Asian continent has always been one of strength and collaboration, and the National Federations of Asia remain at the very heart of our global boxing family.’

Chris Roberts OBE emphasized the strategic importance of this decision, noting that Asia has long been a powerhouse in the world of boxing, contributing an impressive array of talent, innovation, and cultural heritage to the sport.

‘Together with ASBC, we are paving the way for even greater achievements,’ he went on. ‘This partnership underscores our shared dedication to developing the sport at every level — fostering athletes, enhancing competitions, and creating new opportunities for athletes to excel.’

The decision not only strengthens IBA’s unity but also sends a clear message to the global boxing community: collaboration and adherence to constitutional principles are the foundation for lasting progress. With ASBC’s continued commitment, IBA is poised to further elevate the sport across Asia and beyond, working hand-in-hand with our National Federations to achieve new milestones. This vote marks a turning point, reflecting the trust and shared ambition that bind IBA and ASBC.
