Thailand, India and Kazakhstan steal the show in Bangkok as the ASBC Women’s and Men’s Youth Continental Championships come to a close

The city of Bangkok has hosted seven days of magnificent boxing action to crown the twenty new Asian Youth Champions who represent the next generation of talent from one of the continents with the brightest boxing tradition in the World. The tournament has also served as qualification event for the upcoming Youth World Championships and Youth Olympic Games madding available 117 and 13 quota places respectively.
At the end of an intense week of competition, with 208 boxers from 30 countries steeping into the ring on pursuit the Asian glory, Kazakhstan, Thailand and India has emerged as the triumphant nations winning 10, 4 and 3 gold medals respectively.
On the women’s side of the draws, Team India showed the power of their new generation of female boxers who aim to follow on the footprint of five-time World Champion Mary Kom wining 3 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronze medals. But the medal table was topped by Kazakhstan with all their boxers earning medals (4 golds, 3 silvers and 3 bronzes).
The Kazakh team dominated as well the men’s event clinching the impressive number of 8 medals (6 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze). The incredible performance of Thailand’s Atichai Phoemsap in front of his home fans granted him the gold medal in the Men’s 60kg weight division as well as the Best Men Boxer of the event honor. Thailand and Uzbekistan, with 3 and 1 medals respectively, completed the gold medalists trio.
