The IBA development program for the year 2024 is continuing with another course representing another milestone in the further education of boxing technical officials. Budva hosted the IBA Cut Technician Course within the program of the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships from 29 October to 1 November.

Following the removal of headguards for women, the introduction of professional hand taping and an ever-increasing development of IBA Champions’ Night events, the Cut-technician role has becomeincreasingly important and in increased demand. We are faced always with a role of continued responsibility, consequently the course covers a wide number of valued topics, from hand taping techniques to the care and prevention of facial and head injuries.

Just like the latest Cut Technician Course held in Tashkent during the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships, this year the course was conducted by Mr Denis Kolesnik. The total number of 28 participants were present in Budva, including coaches and physiotherapists. This IBA educational programme is designed to cover both theoretical and practical training for coaches, doctors and physiotherapists, who want to operate in the field of cut-technicians.

The IBA General Secretary and CEO, Chris Roberts OBE, spoke about the importance of continuous professional education in all areas of development.

‘We are aiming to increase our new specialists to ensure that every National Federation has qualified personnel in place to improve the quality of boxing in all five continents. Cut Technicians play a pivotal role in the prevention of injuries and ensuring safety of boxers, and with our best instructors, we are able to educate the new generation of specialists,’ he emphasized.

IBA instructor Denis Kolesnik commented, ‘As part of this course, participants mastered the techniques of professional hand taping, control and relief of soft tissue injuries of the face during a bout, in between rounds. The IBA initiative to conduct courses contributes to the development of various skills among the coaching and physio staff, which allows them to be prepared for emergency situations as cuts, hematomas and nosebleeds. The formation of cut technician skills among youth team coaches has many advantages. A professional approach and knowledge of hand taping and prevention of soft tissue injuries of the face prolong an athlete’s career.’
