Semi-final line-up confirmed at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships

On the second day of the quarterfinals at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva, 28 teams sealed a medal in Montenegro.
Kazakhstan led the way with 17 athletes still in competition, with one of them being Aslan Yeldibaiuly winning in the men’s +92kg tournament against Myrzakir Koshaliev from Kyrgyzstan. European champion Adam Olaniyan from Ireland is through to the final four after dominating in his bout against Hungarian Brendon Nemeth.
Uzbekistan is well-represented too, with 13 boxers still standing. Sobirakhon Shakhobiddinova was a first-round winner over Lara Kern from Slovenia in the women’s +81kg division and will meet Panar Seiitkhankyzy next, with the Kazakh causing a stoppage against Elena Platon from Romania in the second round.
China has 10 boxers in the semi-finals, and some won by referee’s stoppage today. Bao Zi Yi defeated Kseniia Prusakova from Russia in the first round of the women’s 75kg contest, Dina Shanatibieke eliminated Reitumetse Mokoma of Lesotho in the women’s 66kg division, and Chen Yanfen won in the women’s 52kg tournament in the second round over Luciana Petrache from Romania. On top of this, Wang Miqi won by a unanimous decision over European champion Panagiota Kouzilou from Greece in the women’s 57kg division.
New Zealand’s Josh Tonga continued in style in the men’s 80kg division, beating Armen Poghosyan from Armenia in the second round by referee’s stoppage. Joining him in the final four is Ruslan Shikhmambetov from Russia, who was the unanimous victor over Javohir Mehriddinov from Uzbekistan.
Kazakhstan’s Asian bronze medallist Yelyanur Turganova won in the women’s 50kg tournament against Uzbekistan’s Zilolakhon Yusufova, and Greece’s European bronze medallist Maria Georgopoulou joins her, beating Tita Paulina Reyes Ramirez from Mexico.
Kyla Doyle Byrne continued a great run in the women’s 66kg tournament too, beating Rayhona Kurbonboeva from Uzbekistan by a split decision.
Asian champion Oner Seiilkhan defeated Albanian Ahmed Koci to continue in the men’s 71kg division, joined by Uzbekistan’s Mukhammadazizbek Ismoilov, who bettered Bahrombek Hatamov from Tajikistan. They are joined by Alperen Yilmaz from Türkiye and Russian Aleksei Gukov who respectively defeated Arshak Bablumyan from Armenia and Igor Bondar of Moldova.
