Following the resignation of former AIBA President CK Wu on November 20, 2017, the IOC Executive Board made a decision to suspend IOC funds to AIBA until it submits a plan to address its governance and financial issues. IOC President Thomas Bach announced this decision on December 6, 2017 at a press conference.

Following this announcement, the IOC Director General sent a letter to AIBA Interim President Franco Falcinelli, dated December 12, 2017, and another letter on January 12, 2018, asking AIBA to provide a report to the IOC on six requirements – governance, management, financial, judging, refereeing and anti-doping – by January 31, 2018, a deadline set by the IOC.

AIBA is in the process of preparing this report for the IOC, detailing the progress in the various areas and is confident to meet the IOC deadline. Therefore, AIBA understands that today’s IOC statement is only a public expression of its position from December 6, 2017. In our view, this is nothing new.

The success of AIBA’s Extraordinary Congress in Dubai and its decision to appoint a new leadership is another positive development, which should be welcomed by the IOC.
