Quarterfinalists begin in Budva at IBA Youth World Boxing Championships

The first set of quarterfinals have taken place at the IBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships at the Budva Sports Centre in Montenegro, confirming the first guaranteed medallists of the competition.

Among them was Jasmin Tokhirova from Uzbekistan in the women’s 48kg division after beating France’s Mathilda Fragnieres by a split decision. Making it through with her included Kazakhstan’s Anel Abdrassilova by a unanimous decision over Colombian Juanita Herrera.

A first-round stoppage saw Genesis Horta from Venezuela make it into the final four with a win over Valentina Morosanu from Romania, with Tang Xuan from China also winning by a stoppage in the third round of her 54kg bout with Devany Ramirez Reyes from Mexico.

Siofra Lawless from Ireland has been impressive throughout the women’s 63kg tournament and continued today by forcing a referee’s stoppage 30 seconds from the end of her fight with the fancied Odinakhon Ismoilova from Uzbekistan. Ourania Kantzari from Greece has looked as precarious, causing a first-round knockdown and being given the victory against Romania’s Alissa Buse.

Bilalhabsi Nazarov from Azerbaijan won by split decision in the men’s 48kg in close contest against Cuban Angel Ruiz, while Othman Chadghour from Morocco continued his great run by beating Hu Junhao from China.

Junior World champions Amantur Dzhumaev from Kyrgyzstan and Torekhan Sabyrkhan from Kazakhstan progressed in the men’s 54kg and 67kg tournaments respectively, beating Koussay Dallagi from Tunisia and Akbar Ahmadov from Uzbekistan.

In the final match of the afternoon session, Russia’s Kamil Dzhamaev won a close-fought battle with Cuba’s Javier Rawlins Zayas in the men’s 86kg division by a 3-2 split decision.

Asian champion Alimire Abudureyimu from China is into the women’s 70kg semi-finals after a unanimous decision win over Colombia’s Melanis Isabel Perez Ramirez and is joined by Asian bronze medallist Oysha Toirova from Uzbekistan who defeated Emilia Koterska from Poland.

IBA Junior World champion Tolganay Kassymkhan from Kazakhstan was victorious in the women’s 60kg tournament, handily beating Lithuania’s Beatrice Savickaite, while Tunisian boxer Molka Khalifi won a tight split decision verdict over Russian Sofia Molchanova.

Another IBA Junior World champion Fabian Pawel Urbanski from Poland defeated Israel’s Ahmad Jabarin to make it through to the men’s 75kg semi-finals, to be joined by Kazakhstan’s Sanzhar-Ali Begaliyev, the victor over Yurisniel Abreu Ardiles from Cuba.

The IBA offered $500,000 USD prize money fund for IBA Youth World Boxing Championships. All those proceeded to the quarterfinals in all 25 youth men’s and women’s weight categories will receive prize money. Quarterfinalists are to receive $1,000 each, bronze medallists will get $2,000, silver medallists are going to be awarded $4,000. For the gold medals, the award is $8,000.
