Poland’s Youth Olympic Games winner Elzbieta Wojcik is appointed as Ambassador of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships which starts in Kielce, Poland on April 13. She was named as the Best AIBA Women’s Youth Boxer in the Year of 2014 when she remained unbeaten.
‘After my first Youth World Championships silver medal in 2013, the next year, I won a gold in Sofia and it gave me a real inspiration for my elite career. I still remember this emotions! Now I am proud that this important youth competition is taking place in my home country,’ Wojcik said.
‘I aim high, and that is my message to young athletes who compete next week in Kielce at their first Youth World Championships. Do your best in each fight, show your passion for boxing! This is very important step towards your dreams. I will be happy to support all of you as I know how important it is for young generation,’ she added.
The middleweight (75kg) boxer, Elzbieta Wojcik was born on the 14th of January 1996 and started her career at the 2011 Polish Women’s Junior National Championships. The southpaw boxer trains in the club of KSW Roza Karlino in Poland.
Wojcik won her first international title also in 2011, when she became European Women’s Junior Champion in Orenburg, Russia. She repeated that success in the 2012 edition of the tournament in Wladyslawowo.
Following her gold medal at the European Union Youth Boxing Championships in Keszthely, Wojcik claimed a fantastic silver medal at the 2013 AIBA Women’s Youth World Championships in Albena, Bulgaria where only the US star, London 2012 Olympic Champion Claressa Shields was able to stop her in a close final bout in the middleweight (75kg).
Following those results, she conquered the youth world in 2014 and defeated all of her rivals that year. The 18-year-old Polish boxer lost only two contests in her junior and youth careers and the strength of her punches was similar to a male fighter which she proved in the big events of the year.
Wojcik met in the semi-finals of the 2014 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships with Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Junior World Champion Chen Nien Chin in Sofia. Chinese Taipei’s national pride could control the contest only provisionally and Wojcik’s will was the dominant in their semi-final. The Polish lady fought for the gold medal against Australia’s Brandenburg Youth Cup winner Caitlin Parker and she succeeded.
Wojcik was unstoppable also at the 2014 EUBC European Women’s Youth Boxing Championships in Assisi. The Polish middleweight (75kg) boxer qualified for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games. Wojcik eliminated a strong rival, Australia’s Caitlin Parker in the semi-final of the Games with impressive performance.
Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien Chin was Wojcik’s final opponent at the Youth Olympic Games. That was another re-match following their first meeting in Sofia. Chen tried to use a better tactic in the contest but Wojcik kept the safest distance in their final bout. The Polish boxer’s hand was raised following the split decision of the judges in a top-level bout which was the best one on the fourth competition day of the Youth Olympic Games.
Wojcik joined the elite age group in 2015 and moved ahead in the rankings step by step gaining international experience. She was a quarter-finalist at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and achieved bronze at the Minsk 2019 European Games. Wojcik delivered her career highlight at the 2019 EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships taking a silver medal in Alcobendas, Spain.
