A packed Oceania Pavilion witnesses twenty-four world-class bouts on Day One of the Youth Olympic Games

Sunday saw the first day of boxing action at the third edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, with twenty-four bouts scheduled across two boxing sessions involving athletes from 34 countries. The likes of Argentina, Thailand, Great Britain and Egypt are among the countries progressing athletes into the next round after a wonderful first day of boxing in Buenos Aires.
THREE ROUNDS FROM DAY 1
Round 1 – Mirco Cuello and Brian Arregui delight the Argentinian fans
It was back in 2010 that Argentina celebrated its last victory at the Youth Olympic Games, but locals Mirco Cuello (Bantam 56kg) and Brian Arregui (Welter 69kg) changed this dynamic today with two brilliant performance in front of the cheering crowd. Both athletes proved that, with the astonishing support of the Argentinian fans, they are equally capable of a top podium finish at the Youth Olympic Games.
Round 2 – Samoa, Thailand, Canada, Czech Republic and Morocco make Youth Olympic history
Czech Republic’s Daniel Mikustak (Men’s Heavy 91kg), Canada’s Tethuach Chuol (Men’s 91+kg), Thailand’s Sukthet Sarawut (Men’s Fly 52kg), Morocco’s Mohammed Boulaouja (Men’s Light Welter 64kg) and Samoa’s Jancen Poutoa (Men’s Middle 75kg) wrote a new victory page on the boxing history books of their countries after becoming the first ever athletes to win a bout at a Youth Olympic Games on Day one in Buenos Aires.
Round 3 – Egypt’s Ahmed Elsawy incontestable debut
It took less than 2 minutes for Ahmed Elsawy (Super Heavy 91+kg) to set a clear statement on his medal intentions at the Oceania Pavilion. The Egyptian boxer showed some of the most powerful punches ever seen at the Youth level to defeat Australia’s Jai Dennis after the Referee stopped the contest to protect the Aussie athlete.
