New historic step for the development of coaches through IBA & WBA joint course

October 3rd, 2024 / IBA Courses

The International Boxing Association continues to make great strides in the development and training within the coaching space. We firmly believe that with the ongoing work towards IBA Champion’s Night and the imminent launch of the IBA new professional boxing project, the need for professional growth of coaches becomes increasingly sought after and important.

Following the success of the certification course for R&Js held in Cuba on the occasion of International Boxing Day, IBA, in close collaboration with the WBA, launches the first joint course for our coaches. This collaboration represents a historic step for both organizations and the course will be aimed at giving further tools and knowledge both theoretical and practical to our coaches as part of our continuous professional development program.

‘IBA values good collaboration, and the one with WBA is extremely fruitful. We are happy to present a comprehensive program aimed at 360 development of our coaches with the very best experience from both IBA and WBA instructors, who will indeed share their valuable knowledge. Coach is key to the progress of any athlete, and we invest in their education, along with enduring that our boxers have the best opportunities to excel,’ IBA Secretary General and CEO Chris Roberts OBE said.

‘We are happy to be able to develop boxing in cooperation and to enhance the technical and tactical knowledge of the IBA coaches. They are a fundamental pillar in the training and education of the athletes; hence the knowledge of technical foundation is vital. In order to achieve it we have the best instructors to improve coaches’ work starting from the basics – the approach shared by Gilberto Mendoza, the former WBA President, as well as IBA President Umar Kremlev,’ WBA Vice President Lautaro Moreno added.

The course starts on 8 October 2024 and consists of 12 online sessions for a total duration of three months. The course is free of charge and is open to selected IBA 2 and 3-Star coaches, dependent on application and experience, and who wish to improve their professional knowledge, skills and expertise.

To enrol, Coach applicants can fill out the form, with a cut-off date of 7 October, 14:00 CET.
