IBA President Kremlev stresses the role of China in boxing, proposes Champions’ Night and World Championships to be held in the country

IBA President Umar Kremlev has arrived in China to explore opportunities for organizing Champions’ Night and IBA World Championships in the country. The President’s delegation visited several cities in China, including Beijing, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou.
President Kremlev was met by the first deputy of the Minister of Sports and IBA Board of Directors member Jinqiang Zhou on behalf of all leadership of the Ministry, National Olympic Committee, and All-China Sports Association. The meeting took place at Beijing Sport University, one of the leading universities in the country, with Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Beijing Sport University Mr. Zhang Jian, and other members of the leadership present.
President Kremlev became an Honored Professor of the Beijing Sport University for his outstanding contribution to boxing development with a special ceremony scheduled in May.
‘China plays a pivotal role in the development of boxing worldwide with its rich traditions and World champions,’ President Kremlev said. We will select a city to organize IBA Champions Night and feature local boxers for a home audience against the best rivals from worldwide. We plan at least two Champions’ Nights in China in the foreseeable future, as well as IBA World Boxing Championships, as these events promise to be organized at the top level.’
President proposed to create a Boxing Academy in China, which would be an international center for the sport, where athletes would train, and coaches and officials receive further qualification via development courses. The agreement with Beijing Sport University to build the academy will be signed in May.
‘China has all the conditions for creating a Boxing Academy and raising new talents locally and internationally. It should be a world academy with all the facilities for boxing, an international center. We will pay a visit in May to sign an agreement for it to be built,’ Kremlev added.
