IBA Ordinary Congress 2024 date and location amongst key decisions taken by the IBA Board of Directors in Madrid

The International Boxing Association (IBA) held its Board of Directors meeting yesterday in Madrid, where key matters were discussed, and decisions were made to shape the future of the organization.

The Board of Directors voted on the IBA Ordinary Congress 2024 date and location with Dubai, UAE to host the annual event on 6-7 December.

The Board of Directors were provided an update on several legal matters that have been of utmost importance to the IBA. These include the recent decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF).

Membership issues were thoroughly discussed during the meeting. The IBA Board reaffirmed its steadfast position against dual membership, however committed to collaboration and aimed to unite all members, leading to the establishment of a Normalization Committee. Dual membership remains impossible; however, the committee will assist National Federations in finding the solutions.

The Board of Directors reviewed the upcoming IBA events and emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards across all aspects of the organization. The meeting also highlighted the need for a comprehensive understanding of the Financial Support Program (FSP). IBA Vice President Abdulmutalim Abakarov and Secretary General and CEO Chris Roberts were selected to form the new FSP Committee and IBA Director of International Relations, Alisa Shcherbachenya was appointed as secretary of the Committee. This reformation of the FSP Committee and regulations were done to ensure a more stringent process in evaluating and determining financial and value-in-kind support for National Federations and Confederations.

With all the decisions taken, the IBA is poised to continue its mission of promoting and advancing the sport of boxing on a global scale.

The next IBA Board meeting is scheduled to take place on 21 June 2024.
