IBA Champions’ Night in Almaty to help victims of floods in Kazakhstan
April 27th, 2024 / IBA Champions Night
A huge charity project encouraged by the IBA to support people of Kazakhstan will be implemented at IBA Champions’ Night in Almaty, which will take place on 27 April 2024 at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace.
All funds raised from the ticket sales will be donated to the victims of floods in Kazakhstan, as Western and Northern regions are fighting the natural disaster.
‘IBA has always been supportive of the boxing community, as we value our athletes and coaches most of all,’ IBA President Umar Kremlev said. ‘Hearing about the devastating natural disaster in Kazakhstan, a huge boxing nation, we couldn’t stay indifferent and encouraged to send the proceeds from the ticket sales to help the victims at the moment they need us. It shows that through boxing, we can help not only athletes, but also people around the globe, and I am sure that Kazakh boxers feel proud that they can be helpful to their compatriots by doing their job in the ring.’
Nine epic bouts are scheduled at IBA Champions’ Night in Almaty with home favorite Talgat Shaiken facing Saidjamshid Jafarov of Uzbekistan over eight rounds for the IBA Asian Championship. Jafarov said he was ready to fight and show a spectacular bout. Shaiken claimed he wanted to leave the belt in his home country, while he supported an initiative of IBA and organizers to help the people of Kazakhstan.
The penultimate match sees the World champion from the home nation, Bekzad Nurdauletov, take on the still undefeated Luis Antonio Tejeda (9-0-1) from the Dominican Republic at 80kg. Tejeda confessed that he felt confident before the fight both mentally and physically, as he was ready to fight anyone. Nurdauletov, in turn, mentioned that he studied the rival well and it would give a real battle.
