IBA Board of Directors meets in Havana

August 26th, 2024 / IBA, Board of Directors

IBA Board of Directors met in Havana, Cuba to discuss several important matters on the eve of International Boxing Day.

‘This is a special Board of Directors meeting,’ IBA President Umar Kremlev addressed the members. ‘Tomorrow, we have a huge celebration of International Boxing Day at the birthplace of our first-ever World Championships that united our nations for the very first time in Havana in 1974. So today, we came here in Cuba to unite again and engage people in sport, as IBA is the leading example of creating those successful conditions for our athletes.’

The IBA Board decided that the Committees’ composition needs to be reviewed collectively. IBA Head Office was tasked to review each Committee and propose any necessary changes required. The process of review will start immediately, with further details to follow in due course.

The Athletes’ Committee will also be reshaped before the two new representatives are elected to support our boxers at the IBA Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors was updated on the most recent work regarding WePlay, and the latest introduction of International Boxing Day branding.

IBA Secretary General and CEO Chris Roberts OBE delivered an update on finance confirming the sustainability of the IBA accounts.

‘IBA is investing in National Federations, athletes, and coaches, and we are keen to continue supporting our members,’ Chris Roberts OBE said. ‘An ongoing work is aimed to support and unite the IBA National Federations to become stronger as a whole. With our talented athletes and diverse portfolio of events, we have every confidence that the future is bright for the sport of boxing.’

The next IBA Board of Directors meeting is scheduled to take place on 29 October 2024 online.
