Filip Klepo was a popular winner on the third day of the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships, progressing in the men’s 80kg tournament on home soil at the Budva Sports Centre.
He defeated Kenny Jean Charles Wess from the Seychelles by referee’s stoppage in the second round of their match. The Montenegro boxer will be joined in the next round by Josh Tonga from New Zealand, another winner by referee’s stoppage in the men’s 80kg division. Tonga dominated against John Didier from St Lucia, ending the match in the second round too. Also in the weight category, Bulgarian Simeon Boldirev won by a split decision verdict to eliminate Jorge Luis Mayeta Suarez from Cuba.
European champion Adam Olaniyan from Ireland progressed by beating Eduardo Contreras Ramirez from Mexico in the first round after the bout ended early due to injury; and his teammate, European bronze medallist Ryan Jenkins won by referee’s stoppage in the men’s 63.5kg category.
Asian silver medallist Shakhzod Polvonov from Uzbekistan was the unanimous decision winner against Krzysztof Zakrzewski from Poland in the men’s +92kg division, while Asian bronze medallist Javohir Mehriddinov defeated Madiyar Bexultanov from Kazakhstan in the men’s 80kg category.
