As part of AIBA’s historic first visit to Scotland for a week of meetings and events in recognition of the sport’s continuing success in the country, the HeadsUp programme spent Wednesday morning at Boxing Scotland’s High Performance Centre in Glasgow. During the trip, young boxers and coaches of five local gyms – Auchengeich, Southside, Rob Roy, North Glasgow and O’Neils – met with AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu and received a donation of boxing equipment from AIBA’s innovation partner Taishan.

“The creation of the High Performance Centre is a clear signal of Boxing Scotland’s commitment to future success and the profile of our sport in the country. It has been a pleasure to see the state-of-the-art facility in person, and also to witness the enthusiasm of these young people and the dedication of their coaches, showing beyond doubt the transformative power of boxing,” said AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu.

Wednesday evening will then see Boxing Scotland host a black-tie dinner and boxing event, featuring bouts between some of Scotland and England’s top emerging talents.
