First eight Youth Olympic Champions crowned as the next generation of boxing champions emerges in Buenos Aires

Wednesday witnessed twenty-two electrifying bouts at the AIBA Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, including the first eight Finals. The Men’s Fly (52kg), Light Welter (64kg), Welter (69 kg), Middle (75kg), Heavy (91kg) and Super Heavy (91+kg); and the Women’s Feather (57kg) and Middle (75kg) stepped on the ring on pursuit of the Youth glory and delighted the Argentinian cheering fans across two boxing sessions. The remaining Finals of the event will take place tomorrow and will be broadcasted live on www.iba.sport.

THREE ROUNDS FROM DAY 4
Round 1 – Keno Machado clinches first gold for Brazil in Buenos Aires completing a remarkable personal triumph
Keno Machado (Men’s Middle 75kg) has completed today his personal overcoming tale after becoming Youth Olympic Champion at the Oceania Pavilion. Born in the small town of Conceição do Almeida in a humble family, Keno moved soon to São Paulo not only on pursuit of boxing glory but to be able to go to the school and after to the college. His today’s Olympic success has paid off the strong efforts and commitment made by Keno.
Round 2 – Thailand commands the Youth Olympics medal table after first day of Finals
With eight weight classes already completed, Thailand is leading the medal table after winning a total of 4 medals, including 2 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze. The Thai team is followed shortly by Russia, with 2 golds, Kazakhstan, with a gold, a silver and a bronze, and Brazil, with 1 gold and 1 bronze.
Round 3 – Brian Arregui’s golden dream comes true
If winning an Olympic gold medal is special, let’s just imagine being crowned Youth Olympic Champion in front of your family, friends and supporters. This is exactly what Brian Arregui has experienced today at the Oceania Pavilion after defeating Morocco’s Yassine Elouarz in the Men’s Welter 69kg Final. Brian Arregui has also made history becoming the first Argentinian boxers to clinch a gold medal at the YOG, after the bronze medal won by Fabian Maidana in Singapore 2010.
