Friday saw the semi-finals taking place in five more weight categories at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Championships in Delhi, India. It was the turn of lights of Fly (51 kg), Feather (57 kg), Light Welter (64 kg), Middle (75 kg) and Heavy (81+kg) boxers to entertain the crowd, and 8 countries saw their boxers progressing to Saturday’s finals. A total of 13 nations will be now digging for gold on Saturday in what promises to be one of the most disputed Women’s World Championships Finals ever.

THREE ROUNDS OF SEMI-FINALS DAY 2

Round 1: Five new countries booked their ticket to the Finals
A packed KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium witnessed the 10 remaining Semi-Finals today, and the impressive performance of all boxers were rewarded by the cheerful arena. Five more countries got their tickets for the Finals, bringing the total to an impressive number of thirteen, showcasing once more the global expansion of women’s boxing.

Round 2: Ornella Wahne makes history becoming the first German AIBA Women’s World Championships finalist
Friday was a day to remember for German boxing as their Feather (57 kg) boxer made her way to the Finals by securing a unanimous point victory over Netherlands’ Jemyma Betrian. The superb performance of Ornelly Wahner leaves her only three rounds away from the gold, seven years after winning the Youth version of the competition in Antalya 2011.

Round 3: Nouchka Fontijn looking for her first World Championships gold medal
Rio 2016 silver medalist and European Games champion Nouchka Fontijn met the expectations by reaching a new World Championships Finals. The Netherlands’ superstar defeated one of the surprises of the event Wales’ Lauren Price by split decision in one of the bouts to remember in Delhi. The Dutch boxer will now meet China’s Qian Li on Saturday to potentially win her first gold medal after a bronze in Jeju 2014 and a silver in Astana 2016.
