Twenty-six boxers now stand just three rounds away from gold after Tuesday saw the Semi-Finals take place in all thirteen women’s and men’s weight categories at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games. A packed Oceania Pavilion witnessed the impressive performance of all boxers proving the immense talent of the new generation of boxing champions.

THREE ROUNDS FROM SEMI-FINALS

Round 1 – Jennifer Carrillo first Mexican women to ever reach an Olympic Final
Despite being one of the World’s strongest boxing powerhouses, Mexico is not used to clinch good results in women’s boxing. But the future of the Azteca female team seems to be in good hands now after the astonishing performance of Jennifer Carrillo (Women’s Feather 57kg) who defeated New Zealand’s Te Mania Shelford-Edmonds after the referee stop the contest to protect the Kiwi athlete.

Round 2 – Fourteen countries find a spot at the Youth Olympic Games Finals
Tuesday action at Oceania Pavilion saw twenty-six thrilling Semi-Finals bouts in a day to remember in Buenos Aires. A total of fourteen nations have now progressed into the Finals with Thailand, with 4 boxers, topping the list shortly followed by Kazakhstan, Russia and Great Britain, with 3 athletes qualified each.

Round 3 – Russia’s Kolesnikov en route to a dreamed 2018
Russian rising star Ruslan Kolesnikov (Men’s Light Heavy 81kg) is just one bout away from becoming Youth Continental, World and Olympic champion, all in a single year. Kolesnikov, who delivered an impressive knockout on his first appearance at the Oceania Pavilion, delighted again the fans with another well-rounded victory against talented Uzbekistan’s Timur Merjanov to reach the Finals.
