EUBC Ordinary Congress supports IBA’s vision for 2025 and beyond

October 31st, 2024 / IBA, EUBC

The European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) Ordinary Congress has reinforced its commitment to unity within the International Boxing Association (IBA) by endorsing its vision for the future. The Congress, held in Budva, Montenegro, alongside the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships, highlighted a shared commitment to the growth and development of boxing at all levels.

The Congress brought together representatives from 32 National Federations and one provisional non-voting member, Germany, as confirmed by EUBC Legal Counsel Alessandro Oliverio. In a presentation led by Chris Roberts OBE, IBA Secretary General and CEO, delegates were introduced to IBA’s strategic plans and operational roadmap, aiming at a transformative future for the organization. The Congress overwhelmingly supported the proposed direction, with 29 votes in favor and only three abstentions.

‘We demonstrated our unity as one big boxing family today, we are out of the politics,’ Chris Roberts OBE remarked. ‘Our path forward is clear: we continue to invest in amateur boxing, whilst also actively developing the professional area of our sport, with key events like IBA Champions’ Night and new initiatives on the horizon. IBA’s mission is to create an environment for success on a global scale, supporting boxers of all levels. Our focus isn’t just on the discussions we’re having now; it’s about paving a sustainable future for the next generation of boxers.”

With this endorsement, the EUBC reaffirms its dedication to IBA’s holistic approach to boxing. The IBA’s vision for 2025 and beyond centres on developing a robust pipeline from junior and youth, to professional boxing, ensuring inclusivity, and fostering growth opportunities across all levels and regions. This unified commitment demonstrates a significant step toward a future where boxing remains accessible, competitive, and beneficial for athletes worldwide.

IBA and its extended membership continue to demonstrate the conditions set for sporting success. We thank the EUBC for their support and those positive messages coming out of this superb Сongress setting in Budva.
