The American Boxing Confederation (AMBC) under the leadership of its President, José Laureano Sepúlveda, supports and joins the statement issued by Dr. Ioannis Filippatos, President of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC), and the recent statements of the White House, led by USA President Donald Trump, which exposes the scientific impossibility of guaranteeing fair competition between transgender athletes and biological women in women’s sport and joining efforts to the protection of the rights of female athletes.
The AMBC reiterates its unwavering commitment to sports justice, fairness and integrity in boxing and sport in general. We fully support all initiatives and efforts that the International Boxing Association (IBA) is undertaking to protect the spirit of the sport, based on scientific evidence and respect for the rights of all athletes.
The biological differences between men and women, derived from various factors, represent an inherent competitive advantage that cannot be ignored. Allowing transgender athletes to participate in women’s categories puts equal opportunities and the very essence of women’s sport at risk.
The AMBC urges all sports organisations, athletes and stakeholders to join this collective effort to maintain the integrity of sport and ensure that future generations can compete in a fair, safe and equitable environment.
