The International Boxing Federation (AIBA) this week took part in the working session of the Olympic Results and Information Services (ORIS), which was held in Montreux on 23-25 October. The purpose of this three-day meeting was to discuss and plan the results system for Boxing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

With less than two years before the start of Tokyo 2020, the main focus of the meeting was to review and discuss the draft ORIS Document prepared by the team to support Boxing in Tokyo, working towards a final version to be used for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Among the points covered were new technologies to be used to deliver better data results, protocol, ceremonies, etc.

Gafur Rahimov, AIBA interim president said: “The meetings with ORIS went very well. After a successful Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, it is now time to fully focus on Tokyo 2020. Everything is on track and I am very happy with the progress made by our team in terms of Games preparations. AIBA is moving forward on all fronts and we will continue to work hard to ensure that boxing shines during the Olympics.”

The ABIA delegation was composed of Executive Director Tom Virgets, Executive Committee Member Pat Fiacco and other staff members. The organisations present alongside AIBA included IOC ORIS Project team, Atos Major Events, Omega and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee.

The ORIS project was established at the Sydney 2000 Games, with the idea of setting the standards of all the information and results related with the Olympic Games, from how the information should be collected, presented and distributed to the different transmission routes.
