AIBA wraps up at the 2018 Asian Games

As the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian games comes to a close, AIBA would like to congratulate all boxers who competed at this fantastic event. With the competition in the ring being fierce and many new comers clinching medals, this was an overall great event for the promotion of boxing throughout Asia.
In addition to the boxing competitions at the Games, the AIBA Interim President Mr. Gafur Rahimov had the opportunity to promote the development of boxing at the Games at the OCA General Assembly and in various meetings with key stakeholders from within the Olympic Movement.
Amongst the highlights, were meetings with Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah – President of the Olympic Council of Asia, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees and IOC member, Zhongwen Gou – Chinese Minister of Sport and NOC President, , Haider Farman – Director of the OCA Asian Games Department, Wu Di – Chairman of the First Commitment International Trade (FCIT), as well as several NOC leaders, IF representatives and IOC members including among others, NOC representatives from India, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Indonesia.
Mr. Rahimov stressed the importance of these meetings, which aim to establish strong ties among all sporting nations in Asia. Gafur Rahimov, AIBA Interim President said: “It has been a great honour to meet with key stakeholders of the Olympic Movement and share AIBA’s ambitions with them. Ensuring the development of our sport, especially in such an important region, is an absolute priority for our organisation.”
Amongst the topics discussed in the meetings was the role of boxing within the Asian Games and the future development of the sport within Asia.
