AIBA President Dr Wu arrives in India to meet with BFI, IOA and Indian Sports Minister ahead of 2017 Commissions Meetings

February 26th, 2017 / IBA

AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu is in India ahead of the 2017 Commissions Meetings, following the return of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) to the AIBA family with the election of Mr Ajay Singh as President last year. Along with Mr Singh, President Wu met with India’s Sports Minister Mr Vijay Goel and the India Olympic Association Secretary General Mr Rajeev Mehta to discuss the sport’s growth in the country under the new administration.

“Following the unanimous decision to reintegrate the Boxing Federation of India at AIBA’s Extraordinary Congress in December, these are important moments for the development of boxing in India, and I am delighted to be here as the BFI shows its determination to become a major force in world boxing. AIBA will now unite more than 100 experts across our Commissions over the next two days as we continue our work on the new Olympic cycle, and having hosted courses for 90 R&Js and Coaches on the eve of these Commissions Meetings, it is clear that boxing has a strong future in this great country,” said the AIBA President.

The 2017 Commission Meetings take place on 27-28 February, bringing together expertise from all areas of the sport as AIBA continues to formulate and optimise the roadmap to Tokyo 2020.
