AIBA Family education continues in Hamburg with Cutman course and R&J seminars

August 25th, 2017 / IBA

Ahead of the 2017 AIBA World Championships, AIBA’s ongoing education programme continued with a two-day Cutman course for the teams attended by 31 participants from 20 National Federations. With professional hand-wrapping now mandatory in the competition, training sessions in the techniques for coaching staff have become a feature of major international tournaments to ensure best practice is followed. After the final practical session, attendees sat a written exam before a three-hour practical exam completed the course.

The R&J seminars for the 35 Referees and Judges officiating at this year’s competition completed their pre-tournament preparations, the first World Championships since the new technical rules brought in after Rio 2016. As well as the rule changes, all five Judges’ scorecards will be used to determine the winner of the bouts, and are now stationed on all four sides of the ring. The AIBA Family education will continue in the venue with presentations to the fans of the fundamental rules and judging criteria between sessions.
