AFBC opens Headquarters in Addis Ababa

African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) has officially opened a Headquarters in Addis Ababa at the inauguration ceremony on Saturday 17 August 2024. IBA Board of Directors member Pearl Dlamini, AFBC President Eyassu Wossen, and Minister of Culture and Sports of Ethiopia Ms Shewit Shanka welcomed the esteemed guests.

‘It is a great honor to welcome you all to the inauguration of the African Boxing Confederation’s new office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,’ President Wossen said in his opening speech. ‘This moment marks a significant step forward for African boxing as we open a space dedicated to advancing our sport across the continent. Together, we are making African boxing stronger and more united. Thank you all for being here to celebrate this important milestone with us. Let’s continue working together to build a brighter future for African boxing.’

Ms Shanka congratulated the guests on “a historical achievement for Africa”, as she mentioned that boxing is beyond sport, it is “a tool for growth and transformation.”

IBA Board of Directors member Pearl Dlamini addressed the guests on behalf of IBA President Umar Kremlev.

In his address, President Kremlev mentioned that ‘Under the leadership of AFBC, African boxing has continued to thrive, producing athletes of exceptional talent and character. The establishment of this new headquarters marks the beginning of an even more promising chapter, one that will undoubtedly elevate the sport and create new opportunities for boxers across the continent.’

The AFBC Headquarters in Addis Ababa is situated at the Great Palace building and will accommodate 13 employees based in Ethiopia, with others working remotely across Africa.
