3 rounds interview with… USA’ Heaven Garcia
August 18th, 2018 / IBA, Budapest 2018
Round 1 – About you
When and why did you start boxing?
I started boxing at the age of 8. I got a letter from school and I gave it to my mother. She asked me if I wanted to join and I said yes, without even knowing what boxing was. I just fell in love with the sport.
What does boxing bring to your life?
What boxing brings to my life is joy, friends, happiness and great memories.
Tell us about your family
I have a big family in both my mother’s and father’s side and I am very close with them. My family means everything to me. They all support me in all I do and I would not have been where I am without them.
Round 2 – About Budapest
How did you prepare for the competition?
I prepared very well for this AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. I am just coming back from a defeat which I suffered in the last AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships in Guwahati. I had a huge motivation and I will be prepared when the competition days are coming.
The key elements of my training sessions are to have great stamina, be active and smart. I did not use any special training methods during my training camps, but I am working extremely hard for this AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
My coach Augie Sanchez leads my training sessions for the world event, we are training three-times a day and 6 days out of the week to make a professional preparation for the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships Budapest 2018.
What do you expect from the competition?
I am expecting to be competitive in this championship. It won’t be easy at all! I expect to come out victorious with a gold medal, but I know I have to move ahead step by step. I lost to Kazakhstan’s Zhansaya Abdraimova in the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships Guwahati 2017, therefore I would say she could be my main rival in Budapest.
