The 2018 edition of the Youth Olympic Games comes to close crowing another five champions in Buenos Aires

Thursday’s action saw the last boxing Session of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games at the Oceania Pavilion. The Men’s Bantam (56kg), Light Welter (64kg) and Light Heavy (81kg); and the Women’s Fly (51kg) and Light (60kg) weight classes once again delighted a packed arena in a memorable closing day in Buenos Aires.

THREE ROUNDS FROM DAY 5

Round 1 – The future of the noble art is assured!
After 109 brilliant bouts, thirteen new Youth Olympic Champions representing 8 different nations were crowned in what promises to be one of the most talented generations of the noble art. The level of skills and commitment displayed by all the athletes during the 5 competition days proves not only the good health of our sport and the grassroots development work carried by AIBA, but also the immense quality of the young boxers from all around the World.

Round 2 – Imperial Caroline Dubois clinches a new gold
Great Britain’s Caroline Dubois has added in Buenos Aires a new gold medal to her impressive record after defeating Thailand’s Porntip Buapa in the Women’s Light (60kg) Final. The performance and skills displayed by the British Youth Olympic, World and Continental champion during the Games shows that Caroline has the potential to follow Nicola Adams’ footprints.

Round 3 – Europe tops the medal table by Continent
With a total of 19 countries from 4 continents clinching medals at the Youth Olympic Games, it has been Europe the one who earned more medals, with 7 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronzes. Asia, with 12 medals, including 4 golds; and America, with 7 medals, followed shortly in the medal table. Africa completed the medal record earning a total of 5 medals.
