AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu welcomed World Taekwondo Federation President Dr Chungwon Choue to Riocentro Pavilion 6 on Friday night as the 14th session of the Rio 2016 Boxing Tournament got underway.

The four-day Olympic Taekwondo Tournament begins on 17 August and, much like the boxing tournament which has seen head-guards removed for the first time since Los Angeles 1984 and non-AIBA boxers allowed to compete, it will feature important innovations for Rio 2016. A new octagonal competition area will be used for the first time, and head sensors will help the judges’ scoring during the Taekwondo competition in Carioca Arena 3.
