On the first day of the Extraordinary General Meeting of the African Boxing Confederation held in Grand Bassam, Ivory Coast, AIBA fully underlined its commitment to promoting boxing on the African continent with the signing of the HeadsUp Charter by AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu and the Ivory Coast Boxing Federation President General Soumahoro Gaoussou, in the presence of the President of the African Boxing Confederation Mr Kelani Bayor, Ivory Coast Government officials and delegates from National Federations.

AIBA’s long-term objective is the promotion of boxing in all its forms and to offer a transparent, clear pathway for the boxers, their coaches, medical staff and officials who work tirelessly for the development of the sport. The HeadsUp initiative and its four core pillars are a testament to AIBA’s unceasing determination to put boxers’ interests first.

The Ivory Coast Boxing Federation’s support for HeadsUp follows the adoption of the Charter by the Cameroon Boxing Federation during the Olympic Continental Qualification Tournament held in its capital city Yaoundé in March, and its signing by the African Boxing Confederation in early 2016.

The ceremony ended with a speech by the Chef de Cabinet of the Ivory Coast Ministry of Sports and Leisure who sincerely thanked AIBA and the African Boxing Confederation for giving to the Ivory Coast Boxing Federation the opportunity to host this General Assembly in Grand Bassam, a city with a very bright future.
