Weight Divisions in Action

The Women’s Middleweight class (75 kg), Men’s Flyweight class (52 kg), Men’s Lightweight class (60 kg), Men’s Light Welterweight class (64 kg), Men’s Middleweight class (75 kg) and Men’s Light Heavyweight class (81 kg) were in action in the second preliminary competition day of the AIBA Asian-Oceanian Olympic Qualification event in Qian’an where 23 bouts were scheduled in the two daily sessions.

Highlights

Korea’s Kim InKyu put in a top performance once again in his opening bout when he defeated Tajikistan’s Fayzmamad Malakhbekov in the Flyweight class (52 kg).

Filipino’s Roldan Boncales eliminated Vietnam’s Tran Van Thao who moved up to the Flyweight class (52 kg) only last year.

“I was a bit nervous during this important boxing tournament. I was not totally satisfied with my performance because I know I could do better but it was a winning bout. I felt stronger in the second part got my rhythm and my quicker combinations made the difference to help me win my first fight here,” said Roldan Boncales who advanced to the last 16 in the Flyweight class (52 kg).

Iraq’s Ammar Jabbar Hasan used his size advantage to keep the distance against Papua New Guinea’s Commonwealth Youth Games winner 19-year-old Thadius Katua and eliminated his strong Oceanian rival at the Lightweight class (60 kg).

Chinese Taipei’s Chu-en Lai’s victory over Turkmenistan’s promising boxer 19-year-old Hursand Imankuliyev was a big surprise in the second competition day in Qian’an.

China’s first boxer who had to show his skills in the front of his home crowd was Zhejiang’s 28-year-old Qianxun Hu as he defeated Iraq’s Qasim Al-Lami in their Light Welterweight class (64 kg) bout.

Kazakhstan’s Ablaikhan Zhussupov is only 19-year-old but he is one of the gold medal favourite of the Light Welterweight class (64 kg) in Qian’an where he began his quest to the final glory against India’s London 2012 Olympian Manoj Kumar. The Light Welterweight class (64 kg) top talent won easily all the rounds and is now ready to meet the n°1 seed of the Tournament, Korea’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist Lim HyunChul for a highly anticipated bout between two promising boxers.

Mongolia’s Military World Champion 24-year-old Baatarsukh Chinzorig is another favourite in the Light Welterweight class (64 kg) who started successfully his campaign against Tonga’s Fineasi Tuipulotu and is now preparing to meet Japan’s National Champion Hikaru Okishima.

Singapore’s Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Hamid Hanurdeen was a bit nervous in the opening round against President’s Cup winner Mario Blasius Kali but the 22-year-old Flyweight class (52 kg) boxer turned up the heat and surprisingly defeated his Indonesian rival.

Tajikistan’s FISU University World Championships silver medallist Shoira Zulkaynarova shocked one of the favourite of the Women’s Middleweight class (75 kg) India’s Pooja Rani in the first round and the 20-year-old Central Asian will now meet China’s n° 1 seed Li Qian.

A marathon program is scheduled in Qian’an for the third competition day with 47 preliminary bouts in the Women’s Flyweight class (51 kg), Women’s Lightweight class (60 kg), Men’s Bantamweight class (56 kg), Men’s Lightweight class (60 kg), Men’s Welterweight class (69 kg), Men’s Middleweight class (75 kg), Men’s Heavyweight class (91 kg) and Men’s Super Heavyweight class (+91 kg).
