AIBA President Dr Wu visits Rome to celebrate the Italian Boxing Federation centennial

In the wonderful setting of the Casa delle Armi in Rome’s Foro Italico venue, the Italian Boxing Federation (FPI) celebrated its centennial on 22 March, with 300 champions, coaches, managers and VIPs in attendance, all helping to mark the FPI’s successful history of World and Olympic competition.

Among the very special guests were AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, President of the Italian Olympic Committee Giovanni Malago and the President of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC), Franco Falcinelli.

The Italian Boxing Federation President opened the occasion, saying, “We are celebrating our first century of a history in which our athletes have achieved outstanding victories at Olympic Games and World Championships. This event is not only an arrival point but also starting-line to a shining future for Italian Boxing.”

AIBA President Dr Wu added; “The Italian Boxing Federation is one of the most successful in the world boxing family. AIBA is delighted to celebrate its 70th birthday in the year of the Italian Federation’s Centennial, as we have always worked together for the development of boxing. The forthcoming Olympic Games mean that this year is also very important, and I wish the best for the Italian Boxing Team in Rio.”

President Wu presented FPI President Alberto Brasca with an AIBA Commemorative Plaque, and Mr Brasca in turn presented him with the Official Book of the 100FPI, telling the history of the Italian Boxing Federation, and the Official Stamp issued by the Italian Minister of Development.

“I’m honoured to be here to celebrate this important milestone in the history of Italian Boxing,” said President Falcinelli. “This is a history built on outstanding successes and medals both in the Olympic Games and AIBA World Boxing Championships.”

“The Italian Boxing Federation has brought great success to the Italian Sport Movement,” added Mr Malago. “As Italian Olympic Committee President, I hope that this sequence of victories continues in Rio De Janeiro during the upcoming Olympic Games.”
