Eighteen countries earn medals at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games

After 9 days of world-class boxing action, the Gold Coast’s Oxenford Studios have finally crowned the winners of the XXI Commonwealth Games. Following the footmark of some of the most iconic boxers of all times, as the Commonwealth & Olympic champions Lennox Lewis and Nicola Adams, 64 boxers representing 18 nations earned medals and tasted the glory in the Australian Gold Coast.
- Kiwi sensation David Nyika confirmed his world-star status
At only 22 years old, David Nyika has confirmed himself as one of the best heavyweight boxers in the World. The New Zealander clinched his second Commonwealth Games gold medal after winning back to back the events in Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018. With less than 2 years until the next Olympic Games, Nyika will definitely be one to watch in Tokyo 2020.
- The legend of Mary Kom became even greater
To speak about the noble art in India is to speak about the legendary Mary Kom. 5-times World Champion, 5-times Asian Boxing Champion, Asian Games champion, Olympic bronze medalist… and, since last weekend, first Indian women boxer to win the Commonwealth Games.

- England topped the medal table, shortly followed by India and Australia
The English boxing powerhouse was brilliant across the 9 days of competition earning 6 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes in the Gold Coast. Among the gold medalists, Frazer Clarke, Peter McGrail, Pat McCormack and Lisa Whiteside, have delighted the crowd with their remarkable performances.
India has emerged as one the rising boxing countries in the last years. This edition of the Commonwealth Games has paid off the splendid development work of the Indian squad with 9 medals, three of each color.
But if a team stole the limelight at the Oxenford Studios, it was the local Australian squad. Led by the unconditional support of a packed arena, the Aussies were able to clinch 8 medals, including the three golds of Harry Garside, Skye Nicolson and Anja Stridsman.

Boxing is a global sport followed and practiced all over the five continents and this edition of the Commonwealth Games has proven that with a total number of 18 nations claiming medals. The results of Namibia (1 gold medal), Cameroon and Samoa (1 silver medal each), Sri Lanka (3 bronze medals), Nigeria (2 bronze medals) and Fiji, Kenya, Seychelles and Uganda (1 bronze medal each) stated the good health and the continuous development of boxing across the World.
