Two-time World Champion Amir Khan arrived at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena in Doha on Saturday for the quarter-finals of the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
The British boxer had a glittering early career with AIBA, and as the only British boxer at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games at the age of 17, he won the silver medal and instantly became a household name in the sport. Khan had nothing but praise for the organisation of the championships, and was ready to deliver some words of inspiration for the four members of the British team chasing gold as well as places at Rio 2016.
Khan will be watching an evening session packed with British talent, kicking off with Muhammad Ali’s flyweight bout against Azerbaijan’s Elvin Mamishzada. Joseph Cordina takes on talented Brazilian Robson Donato Conceicao in the lightweight category, followed by a welterweight match-up between Joshua Kelly and Mohammed Rabii. Joe Joyce will close out the session against Turkey’s Ali Demirezen.
