August 7th, 2024 / IBA, OCBC

Another nation has joined the International Boxing Association (IBA), as the Australian National Amateur Boxing Association has been named as a provisional member of our organization.

Australia is planning to take a team to the Elite Men’s and Women’s Oceania Boxing Championships in Fiji this November after state and national competitions are held in line with IBA standards.

‘The Australian National Amateur Boxing Association will be an open, fair, and transparent organization,’ said ANABA President Nick Lundh.

‘We are honored to be granted provisional membership with the IBA. This heralds a significant moment in Australian boxing and will generate growth, development and international opportunities for not only our athletes but also our coaches, officials, and staff. New partnership with IBA will allow us to provide our athletes with exceptional possibilities for success. We are delighted about the future of boxing in Australia and the positive impact this partnership with IBA will have on our athletes and broader boxing community,’ he stated.

Australia is the most successful Oceania nation in boxing and has three silver medals and 10 bronze medals at the IBA World Boxing Championships over the years.

Chris Roberts OBE, IBA Secretary General and CEO, said: ‘We welcome the Australian National Amateur Boxing Association with great significance, aware of their promises to continue supporting development in their country. The International Boxing Association is not just about the present, but the future of our sport and finding an organization that matches our ambitions for boxing has been a necessary objective. I want to thank ANABA, and we look forward to working closely together with their athletes, coaches and officials for years to come.’

The International Boxing Association will assess interested National Federations applications from non-affiliated nations.
