July 27th, 2024 / IBA

The German National Boxing Association (GNBA) has confirmed it will participate at the 2024 IBA Youth World Boxing Championships, fielding a squad of eight athletes following its national qualifiers.

This event took place in the city of Gelsenkirchen on Saturday, 20 July, attracting a large crowd to watch some of the best young prospects from across Germany.

Eight boxers booked their spots on the team, and will be travelling to Budva, Montenegro for the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships from 20 October to 6 November 2024.

‘The event was a great success and provided the nominated athletes with a platform to showcase their talent and hard work,’ said GNBA President Lusen Bakos. ‘Those nominated athletes will now prepare intensively for the World Championships. Training camps and additional preparatory bouts are planned so that they will go to Montenegro in the best possible shape. We wish them good luck and are confident that they will make Germany proud.’

The GNBA became a provisional member of the IBA in January 2024.

‘The International Boxing Association welcomes these young German boxers with open arms as they prepare to take on the best future athletes in October at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships,’ said Chris Roberts OBE, IBA Secretary General and CEO.

‘We find it imperative to always provide these opportunities for all athletes and to make sure they are able to compete for their home countries in our IBA competitions, which continue to be well-organized and supported by our member federations. Every country deserves to have their youth boxers represented and we encourage National Federations to join us and support the future stars of our sport.’

The nominated athletes set to represent Germany are: Aleksandr Chisari, Maksim Shukin, Artem Dementyev, Roman Kronvald, Denis Balko, Daniel Balko, Nik Smirnov and Eni Lux.
