Registration opens for Referees and Judges courses to train the next generation of officials for IBA Champions’ Night

July 25th, 2024 / IBA, IBA Champions Night, IBA Courses

IBA referees, judges and technical delegates can now register for the International Boxing Association’s Professional Certification Program, as we search for the next generation of officials.

This aims to provide our officials with the necessary knowledge, skills and expertise to officiate in all IBA professional boxing events in their current form, and those that will be projected through 2025.

The IBA is offering workshops and certification training for our senior officials, to include 3-Star R&Js and Technical Delegates, allowing them to be part of IBA professional events calendar.

These courses are to take place from 6-9 September in Assisi, Italy. Technical Delegates applicants can apply here and Referees and Judges applicants must submit their application here. Registration deadline is on 16 August.

Your experience as an official must be detailed in the application and all potential attendees will be vetted to meet minimum operating requirements.

The IBA has created the training program, consisting of theoretical and practical modules covering topics such as scoring criteria, movement and management in the ring along with the differences between amateur and professional officiating.

Those undertaking the program will attend a high-level intense course of training that will help with a great understanding of work within the professional arena, along with modules specifically dedicated towards the new iteration of the IBA Professional Technical and Competition Rules and Regulations.

The IBA Champions’ Night series has continued to increase its popularity and frequency in 2024, hosting 10 events so far this year, compared to nine in 2023.

Four events are scheduled for August alone, in Ufa, Addis Ababa, Caracas, and Havana. Addis Ababa in Ethiopia is set to host the first IBA Champions’ Night on African soil.
