The fourth day of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships preliminaries saw the Lightweight (60 kg), Light Heavyweight (81 kg), Heavyweight (91 kg) and Super Heavyweight (+91 kg) weight classes competing in Bangkok, Thailand.

Bout of the day

Thailand’s Pachanya Longchin delighted the home spectators in Bangkok with a superb triumph over the experienced Manish Kaushik.

Longchin was shorter than his opponent, but used his height to his advantage by controlling the centre of the ring by using clever shots and constant movement.

Every moment of the bout was entertaining, and the victorious Longchin will now fight Mongolia’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai for a guaranteed medal.

Team of the day

Uzbekistan had two boxers in action on Day 4, and both delivered world class performances to qualify for the next round.

Two-time National Champion Elnur Abduraimov has struggled in major events before, but looked sensational against against Jordan’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist Obada Al-Kasbeh.

Abduraimov was especially impressive in the final round, as his excellent hooks and jabs enabled him to win on points, and advance to the Lightweight quarter-finals.

Uzbekistan’s second boxer in action was Bakhodir Jalolov, who has already won three gold medals this year.

The 21-year-old continued his good form with a solid win over Kyrgyzstan’s Sergei Parenko, who was significantly shorter than his Super Heavyweight rival.

Jalolov knocked down his Kyrgyz opponent in the second round, and maintained his dominance throughout the bout.

Surprise of the day

Turkmenistan’s Azizbek Achilov enjoyed a surprise win over Tajikistan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Navruz Jafoev.

Jafoev received a warning in the second round, and could not get to grips with the stamina and speed of Achilov who secured Turkmenistan’s fourth victory of the event.

The Round-Up

Japan’s President’s Cup gold medallist Daisuke Narimatsu is one of the favourites of the Lightweight division, but narrowly defeated Turkmenistan’s Hursand Imankuliyev in a tough bout.

Kazakhstan’s WSB Team Champion Zakir Safiullin also won at Lightweight after outpointing Philippines’ Charly Suarez.

Jordan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Ihab Darweish Al-Matbouli lost to Kyrgyzstan’s Chyngyz Borbashev earlier this year, but performed well to win in their Heavyweight rematch.

Pakistan’s Mehmood Ul Hassan impressed while defeating Mongolia’s Daivii Otgonbayar to establish a great Heavyweight quarter-final with Tajikistan’s former Asian Games winner and two-time Olympian Jakhon Qurbonov.

Fact of the day

Pakistan did not win a single match in the last edition of this tournament, but are competing well in Bangkok after triumphs for their Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight boxers.

Quote of the day

“I know there was a big difference between me and my Kyrgyz opponent today, but I am not satisfied with my performance. I want to win the gold medal, and for that I need to improve my level,” said Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov.

Tomorrow’s program

The fifth day of the preliminaries will be held tomorrow, where 32 bouts are scheduled across two sessions.

Boxers from the Light Flyweight (49 kg), Bantamweight (56 kg), Light Welterweight (64 kg) and Welterweight (69 kg) weight classes will be fighting to reach the quarter-finals on Day 5.
