A record number of 407 boxers register for Junior World Boxing Championships as AIBA marks 30 Days To Go until the event

With only 30 Days To Go until AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships, St Petersburg is gearing up to host the tournament, which will see boxers aged 15-16 compete in 13 weight categories on 4 – 12 September 2015.
“AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships is a major competition for International Boxing Association as it will feature the young boxing stars and the future Champions of our sport. This event is the first step for any boxer who dreams about making a career in boxing. With only 30 days to go before the event, I am confident that the Boxing Federation of Russia will host this competition on the highest level in a country with a long boxing tradition”, said AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu.
AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships boxers’ registration also closes today and the competition saw a sensational 407 boxers of 46 nationalities register for this year’s edition, a significant increase comparing to 2013 Championships, which had 351 boxers from 52 countries register. This demonstrates the vitality of boxing and its development all over the world.

We are looking forward to hosting the world’s best young boxing talent in our city and will ensure that this important competition is organized on the highest level”, said Maksim Zhukov, President of the St Petersburg Sporting Boxing Federation.
The AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships, held every two years, dates back to 2001 when it debuted in Baku, Azerbaijan and was called the AIBA Cadet World Championships. It is an occasion to celebrate boxing’s youngest talent on the international stage. With the participation numbers growing each year and the high level of skill shown in the ring, the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships is a premier event on the AIBA competition calendar. Russia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and USA were the top five boxing nations in 2013 AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships, which took place in Kyiv, Ukraine.
