The medalists among youths of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships were determined in UAE on August,30

The second part of the finals, the 25 youth title bouts were held on the tenth and last competition day of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Kazakhstan bagged eleven youth titles and became the most successful team in this age group. Uzbekistan bagged eight youth gold medals while six Indians won their weight classes today.

Fifteen nations sent their boxers to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships to Dubai: Bahrain, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, host United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan.

“It was a difficult task to organize this championship due to COVID restrictions. But we considered that we should use this opportunity and give boxers the possibility to compete and practice in a very safe environment. The venue was at the same hotel where all the athletes lived.

Everybody said that it was good competition and we hope everybody has gained something from this event. We see how AIBA supports these championships. They set money prizes for the medalists and this means a lot because it encourages the boxer to give their best on the ring. The bouts were very competitive and it was really hard to determine the winner sometimes”, ASBC President Anas Al Otaiba said.

“Finally I am very happy after this title bout. I left the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships with only a bronze medal and I worked hard to retake the gold in Asia. My opponent was very good, he tried to surprise me but I used my own tactical game from the first seconds until the last. I want to thank everyone who supported me to prepare well for this championship”, said Bishwamitra Chongtham from India after his gold medal at the men’s flyweight (51kg).
