The German national boxing team recently defeated the host Polish squad in a friendly encounter in the city of Karlino, with the German delegation winning six bouts in total.

Karlino is famous for their strong and talented boxer Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games gold medallist Elzbieta Wojcik who has just received the Best AIBA Women’s Youth Boxer of the Year Award.

Athlete of the tournament
Germany’s 19-year-old Albon Pervizaj won his first national elite title in October and received the right to fight at the international level following that great success.

He recently won the Adem Jashari Tournament in Gjakova, Kosovo before this friendly encounter, and arrived in Karlino in top shape.

Pervizaj had to meet with Poland’s experienced Igor Jakubowski who won the European Union Boxing Championships in Sofia on August, and the Polish boxer has been a member of the national squad since 2010 competing in various international events since his first appearance.

The German teenager controlled their contest from the first round to beat Jakubowski in the front of the Polish crowd.

Pervizaj is Germany’s greatest hope at the under-20 level and has won a number of impressive bouts in recent times.

The 19-year-old Heavyweight class (91 kg) boxer could be a new surprise in the upcoming year and has got a realistic chance to earn a quota for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Team of the tournament
Poland won three out of the opening four bouts but EUBC European Continental Championships quarter-finalist Kastriot Sopa’s victory was the turning point for Germany’s victory in Karlino.

Following that result, Vjaceslav Kerber, Denis Radovan, Albon Pervizaj and Florian Schulz also continued the winning series for Germany.

Surprise of the tournament
Germany’s 23-year-old Ali Kiyidin won his first national title in October, and he was the favourite against Poland’s Roger Hryniuk.

However, the confidence of his opponent was obvious, and the final verdict of their bout was a unanimous decision victory for Hryniuk which was a surprise.

Ones to watch
Poland’s Mateusz Polski achieved a silver medal at the Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament in 2012, and has raised his number of international bouts in past two years.

Polski defeated Germany’s newly crowned National Champion Atdhe Gashi in Karlino.

Germany’s Florian Schulz and Poland’s Pawel Wierzbicki both claimed medals at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia two years ago, and since then Wierzbicki has moved up to the Super Heavyweight class (+91 kg).

The 20-year-old German boxer used the better strategy in the opening round and though Wierzbicki improved, finally Schulz’s hand was raised.

Stat/fact of the tournament
Among the best possible German line-ups, Hamza Touba, Denis Radovan and Albon Pervizaj competed in the friendly encounter in Karlino.

Both squads were young as the oldest participant was Germany’s Vjaceslav Kerber who is 27.

The youngest boxer of the dual match was Germany’s Youth National Championships silver medallist Hagen Hamel at the Light Flyweight class (49 kg) who is just 18-years-old.
