International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Mr Thomas Bach joined AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu to attend the men’s boxing finals at the last day of competition in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Nanjing, China.
Dr Wu took President Bach on a tour inside the venue where boxing is being held at the Games, showing him the boxers’ warm up area where the arrival of the two senior sports officials was warmly welcomed by the athletes. The boxers even had a chance to discuss and take pictures with the guests.
Afterwards, Dr Wu introduced President Bach to the Referees & Judges (R&Js) area where the IOC President was impressed by the number of ladies acting as R&J’s for AIBA. After having talked with the R&J’s, the two presidents joined the public and other IOC guests to watch several bouts together.
After the visit, AIBA President said: “I am delighted that the IOC President found time in his busy schedule to attend the boxing competition at YOG. It was a big pleasure for me to receive President Bach and to see that he really enjoyed the high-quality boxing performances, not to mention that the athletes were noticeably encouraged by his presence on the final day.”
